I’ve only been living in my apartment for just over a year and since being here I have received three yellow books!!!! Why do I need so many!!! I don’t need or want one. What makes me think the most is how can these companies still be producing so many with everything that’s going on about the environment. I can’t even imagine how many trees go into making these books. Now I know they’re still people out there that dont have or use the internet and that’s fine by me, personally I have been using the internet enough to say that I don’t think I can go a day without it, but is there really a need to be printing the yellow pages so often or in suck large amounts.
On top of that most people just throw them away, and since this blog is about design we should mention the design part of it all. Think about how many hours it took to create those big books, it’s scary. For those newbies to the game you’ll come to realize that the actual design of a piece is only half the battle and the other half is all the production work that goes into it. It’s also the most nerve wrecking considering your dealing with sensitive information and one little misspelling or phone number and your screwed! So I can only imagine how must stress all this might be!
Yes I’m part of the geeky crowd that was able to get their hands on a new iPhone 3G. Now I didn’t wait for in line like a lot of people instead I showed up early the week after it came out to get it. I was lucky enough to get the 16gig white. Now I wants the black but they were out of stock but I just got a black case so no biggie.
I’ve been using it for about two weeks and so fat so good. There are things that do bug me about the phone the good out weight the bad. I really hate that when people send you picture texts you have to get a link to view it online. Which I hate since I don’t have a good memory so to memorize the user name and password bug me a lot. There are others but I would say yhat is my biggest thing.
It’s true that the keyboard gets easier to use as time goes by because I can type pretty fast on this thing.
So over all I like the phone, it delivers what it advertises and gives me a great phone experience. I do a lot with the phone such as watch video and now use it as my radio and chat with it more than my actual laptop since it’s easier to take to the kitchen or sit where ever I want. As time goes by I’ll keep you posted on things I like and don’t like with the phone.

Does anybody use CorelDraw? I’m just curious to see what the experience is using it? Is it a good competitor to the Adobe suite? It seems like it can be. I know they have a program for photos and vector and a page layout program but I can’t seem to find anybody or any school that teaches or requires that you learn CorelDraw.
I know of people that know people that use it and I’ve seen tutorials on youtube for it so it can’t be that bad. If I had a spare machine to be able to test programs I would but I can’t hog up my low capacity HD for a program that I won’t use that much. But if there are people out there that use it please share your experience
The title says it all. I would hate to think that some one out there would think that the face that this baby is making is cute. Please don’t misinterpret this as me saying this is an ugly baby, but just saying that this facial expression isn’t cute in my eyes.
All designers should SKETCH and DRAW! Every single one. I’m a big believer of this because, from experience, it’s way easier to do a quick sketch to a client than a full out computer design. It not only helps with communicating to a client, art director, or another designer but drawing also helps you understand composition more than if your just in front of a computer all day.
Some of the best designers paint, draw, or sculpt on there spare time. For example Doyald Young creates types faces and logo types with pencil and paper before he even touches the computer. He’s so keen on using paper and pencil that he even changes the type of pencil he uses throughout the day! How amazing is that. Another great designer is Paula Scher at Pentagram. When she’s not doing graphic design she paints. I sketch all the time.
I always keep a camera and sketch book with me every where I go. There isn’t a time or place where I might need to remember something or get inspired to create something on paper. Going back to drawing teaching to composition better…it helps tremendously. I know a lot of animators that can do graphic design WAY better than some graphic designers out there, why? Because they know how to create good composition on paper, I’ve seen animators design better logos, websites, packaging, and brochures better than those I know who don’t draw. So it’s been way to long but instead of me just trying to explain why I haven’t written in so long I rather just get right back into design.
In my search to keep up with trends and designs I have been viewing websites, art galleries, reading and by creating some art myself (later on that) and I noticed there’s a lot of it out there. But I’ve been noticing a lot on the walls. I’m actually being particular of people that stick things on wall right now. For the most part people (including myself) don’t really pay much attention to this stuff. I find these little stickers interesting and funny and serious all together. Mostly it’s a tag but sometimes it’s just something somebody wants to put up to express a certain idea or emotion. Here are two examples.

Again I like these little stickers because a lot of them are little personal notes that people like to leave all over the place. It’s inspired me to create some of my own. Don’t know if I’ll actually do it but we’ll see.
